Could A Stranger Let Themselves into Your Home?

The home should be a place of security and safety, which is why so many people spend a lot of time and money ensuring their homes are secure. But how would you feel if an intruder could just let themselves in through your front door? It may be easier than you think. In this blog, we are going to talk about bump keys and how they could be used to break into your home.

Bump keys are cut in such a way that enables them to pick a pin-tumbler-style lock. How common are pin tumbler locks you may ask? Well, they are one of the most common types of locks around, so if a bump key can be used on them, it gives us cause for concern.

Is it easy to obtain a bump key? Yes. You usually just need to know the make of the lock you want the key for. Another worrisome thought is that it does not require a lot of skill or time to learn how to use a bump key, so it is clear why this would be appealing to a burglar.

If you are worried about your home being broken into with a bump key, what can you do? First, make sure your home has a pin-tumbler lock. If it does, you may want to fit bump-resistant locks. While bump-proof locks are available, they are often more expensive and not as easily obtainable. Another step you can take is to improve your other home security measures. With so many home security options available, you should be able to find something to fit your property, as well as your budget.
