Environmentally Friendly Moving and Sorting

Moving house can be tremendously stressful. In high-stress situations, we don’t always make the best decisions. For example, if we leave ourselves a lot to do on the day of the move, we may end up making some decisions that have a negative impact environmentally. So, here are some suggestions to help you get organized and plan for your move:

If you want to move house with as little stress as possible, then you should start well in advance of moving day – this will also enable you to go through your belongings and get rid of any that you do not want to take with you to the new house. Sorting and decluttering can feel like an enormous task, especially if we have lived in the same house for a long time, but don’t view the task as one big job. Instead, take a small pile of things and go through them.

By way of suggestion, try sorting items into three piles. Place items you want to keep in one pile, items you want to donate in another pile, and items you wish to sell at a yard sale in the third pile. Doing this, not only helps you to declutter, but you will also dispose of your things in an environmentally friendly way.

When it comes to organizing, we usually have some areas on our property that we do not want to think about – the garage is often one of those places. Try to tackle this early on in the process, as this will enable you to dispose of things like used batteries and electronic equipment, old paint cans and chemicals, etc. in the right way.

Yes, with good preparation, you can reduce the stress of moving day and do so with as little environmental impact as possible.
