Don’t Make Your Home an Easy Target

It is a time of year when house break-ins are common, so it may also be a good time to think about how secure your home is. You want to think about how easy it would be for a thief to enter your property and then look for ways to deter them. To help give you some ideas, here are a few suggestions:
Light it up! Burglars do not want to alert anyone to their presence, so one way to deter them is by installing motion sensor lights on each side of your house exterior. If you are going to be away for a few days, you may also want to leave some lights on inside the home.
An excess of foliage on your property, especially around the windows and exterior doors of your home, will also provide shelter for a would-be thief and allow them to access your house undetected. By trimming back shrubs and trees from these areas, you will make it harder for a thief to enter your home without being noticed.
Keeping doors and windows well-maintained is another way to protect your home from an intruder. When these areas fall into disrepair, it is much easier to break into the home.
Lastly, many homeowners decide to fit heavy-duty wire screens or window bars on their ground-floor windows. Although this can act as a good burglar deterrent, just make sure that they do not become a fire hazard for the occupants of the home.
